Aubrey Hill Profile

I have been interested in scooters for a good many years, even way, way back when I was well into motorbikes. I always appreciated their style, and simplicity of form, but was always put off by what people might say or think as the crowd I associated with then were definitely into bikes the mere mention of a scooter would have been met with derision on a monumental scale and so my interest was caned form many, many years.

As a small boy I would happily ride pillion on my friend’s scooters which seemed to be in abundance, and when I look back now the quantity of now sort after classic scooters that we trashed, and dumped is nothing short of sacrilege.

Moving on to the 90s, and after reading many scooter mags, I finally got up the courage and bought one of the new generation of autos, a Gillera Runner, and I loved it, this was to be the first of a line of scooters, taking me through, Suzuki’s ground breaking Burgman, to a last of the line PX which I still have and now another auto a Gts as I use my scooters on a daily basis as well as for fun then they see some use.

I got involved with the VMSC to learn more about scooters as a whole, never did I think I would end up on the committee. I first learned of the club when I would visit the annual show at Alumwell School in Walsall then later attending some of their rallies after joining the club properly at the “new” show venue of the Sports connection in Coventry.

My first year on the committee is coming to an end and I have enjoyed getting involved in the Extravaganza as well as supporting the club a regional events and being join organiser of the new northern Rally with our chairman Ian. I am still learning loads about the many scooters that the world produced and getting to see them in the flesh at our various rallies around the country, maybe I will see you at one soon. Till then ride safe ride free.
