Derek Kay is one of the newer members of the VMSC Committee and prior to retirement
worked for both Triumph Motorcycles and Rolls Royce in the Midlands. His first scooter
was purchased in 1962 and not surprisingly was a Triumph Tigress 250, on which he
completed his longest ever ride –
a trip to Geneva in 1963 with his wife of 44 years,
Chris.
In recent years Derek has lovingly restored a 1964 BSA Sunbeam 250 and this
is used frequently throughout the scooter season
.
Derek was first introduced to the
V.M.S.C. in early 2000 at a scooter jumble where he met Chairman met Ian on the club
stand. After a chat about the club he decided to join and started to attend club
rallies that year & enjoyed meeting a lot of new friends.
At one of the A.G.M.s of
2003 he was nominated to join the committee & accepted. Derek’s view of this role
is that it allows him to put something back into the club.
Derek comments that his involvement as a committee member has made him realize that
the club has dedicated long serving people who plan very carefully all the events
& rallies, and his advise is if you have never been to one of these, do go along
as you will always be made welcome & have a good time. So a big thank you to the
V.M.S.C., the committee & members for making my scootering such an enjoyable time!
Happy scootering, Derek
